About Me

"Her voice as a design advocate has meant so much to us. She strikes such a great balance, holding strong to UX principles, while also staying respectful and inclusive of her stakeholders’ perspectives. That’s a rare and valuable skill. Any organization would be fortunate to have Katlan. She combines strategic vision with flawless execution, making her an exceptional designer and leader."

My career journey

My early career started in the fashion industry working backstage for fashion show production companies. I joke that it’s where I learned to produce well under pressure. Post graduation I decided to leverage my studies on the business side of fashion, and landed in merchandising. Strategizing on how to best create digital experiences that would sell product—ironically before I was introducing to UX, I was already doing it. Bridging the gap between stakeholders who had business goals and online shoppers who had frustrations with their experience. After a couple of years of doing this, I discovered that I wanted to be the builder, not just the recommender. Following my education in UX Design, my career continued on at Dialexa as a Digital Product Designer and consultant. After a recent acquisition, my journey has now continued on at IBM where the problem-solving through design continues. Seeing the end-product of what you helped build is a great reward, but I most cherish the moments that helped build it. I enjoy collaborative workshops and design sessions, because no great thing is ever built alone.
